Skiing | |||||||
Whistler and Blackcomb mountains offer more world class skiing than anywhere in North America. For the 2004/05 winter season, Whistler Blackcomb invested $14.2 million in on-mountain improvements, introduced 1,100 acres of new terrain on Whistler Mountain, unveiled a fully redeveloped Creekside base, hosted the 2005 Snowboard World Championships, and launched a Superpipe on Blackcomb Mountain, lit for night skiing and riding. In addition, Whistler Blackcomb expanded and moved its Family Zone, creating an improved experience for families and beginners, and completed many other improvements including expanded landing zones (gathering areas), wider runs, improved ski-outs, and a much improved Nintendo Terrain Park, along with a brand new Tube Park. If you haven't skied or ridden here lately, you're in for some very welcome surprises! With over 8,100 skiable acres, more than 200 trails, 33 lifts, 12 alpine bowls, and over 300 inches of average annual snowfall, Whistler Blackcomb is some of the best skiing or riding to be had anywhere. |

Dining | |||||||
The Westin Whistler Resort & Spa has one on-site restaurant - the award-winning Aubergine Grille - as well as the FireRock Lounge for apres-ski, serving appetizers and cocktails. The award-winning Aubergine Grille is a show-kitchen restaurant, where you can watch their culinary masters prepare your meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With oversize windows that command views of the majestic snow-crested Rainbow and Sproat Mountains, seating in the Aubergine Grille spills over to an additional 70 seats in the summer months to a patio that is considered in Whistler as the place to be for sunset dining. Menus change seasonally, and for dinner the entreés are perfectly paired with a bottle of wine from their extensive wine list, which Wine Spectator Magazine has recognized with their "Award of Excellence" for the past three years. Executive Chef, Hans Stierli also creates special winemaker dinners throughout the year. The FireRock Lounge is named for the featured wall fireplace, and offers an intimate setting with an elegantly rustic look achieved by combining natural materials such as river rock, log ends and hickory sticks. Ideal for apres-ski, the FireRock serves appetizers and snacks along with cocktails. Sit near the fire and watch a sporting event on television or just visit with friends - it's the perfect end to a great ski day! |
